Painter Abraham Walkowitz owned this house in 1938. He is best remembered for his watercolor studies of Isadora Duncan and dance. Many consider Duncan to be the creator of modern dance. Walkowitz can also stake a claim as being the first to exhibit truly Modernist paintings in the U.S. He was close to photographer and art promoter Alfred Stieglitz. Walkowitz painted through the 1940's until the glaucoma he suffered from eventually blinded him. He passed away in 1965.
