Architect Lorimer Rich owned this house in 1938. His most famous design is for the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia. The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier has been patrolled 24 hours a day, 7 days a week since 1930. In 2003, as Hurricane Isabelle was approaching Washington D.C., the U.S. Senate and House took two days off in anticipation of the storm. ABC evening news reported military personnel assigned to guard the tomb were given permission to suspend their duty. They respectfully declined the offer. Rich also designed many post offices and several buildings on the Syracuse University campus including the E.I. White College of Law. He passed away in 1978.
