When it was built in 1964, Cameo Terrace West in southwest Downers Grove was DuPage County's first condo development and the largest-ever condo project in the Chicago area.
The development was created to cater to buyers 45 and over. Its one and two bedroom units are in Y-shaped, three-story buildings with elevators. They were originally priced at $12,000-$13,000 for one bedrooms and $14,000-$19,500 for two bedrooms, according to a 1964 article in the Chicago Tribune. The largest, most expensive Cameo Terrace West unit is 1,100 squar feet.
