Former chairman and CEO of Union Carbide Corporation Warren Anderson sold this house in 1989. Anderson was charged with manslaughter by Indian authorities following the Bhopal disaster in 1984. A Union Carbide subsidiary leaked poisonous gas from the plant into the general population of Bhopal affecting hundreds of thousands of people and claiming (according to Indian governmental agency reports)more than 15,000 lives. The incident is considered to be the worst industrial catastrophe ever and in 2009 an arrest warrant for Anderson was issued by Indian authorities. The United States has declined to honor the arrest warrant.
