National Symphony Orchestra director owned this house

Cellist Howard Mitchell was music director of the National Symphony Orchestra in 1961 when he owned this house. He joined the National Symphony Orchestra in 1933 as principal cellist, made his conducting debut in 1941 and was appointed music director in 1949. Mitchell retired in 1969 as music director emeritus and guest conductor. He passed away in 1988.
