Former U.S. Secretary of Energy (Carter), Charles Duncan Jr., owned this house. He was also President Carter's U.S. Deputy Secretary of Defense. Duncan ran the family owned Duncan Coffee Company until it was sold to The Coca Cola Company in 1964. In 2007 he donated $30 million to Rice University for the establishment of Duncan College.
