Very famous composer lived here

Composer and pianist George Gershwin lived in this building and paid $400 a month in rent according to the 1930 U.S. census. His compositions encompassed Broadway, classical and popular works. Many have become standards used in film, television and performed by many artists. In 2007 the Library of Congress named their Prize for Popular Song after Gershwin and his brother Ira. George Gershwin passed away in 1937 during an operation to remove a brain tumor. He was 38 years old.
