Female explorer and pioneer in animal-human communication owned this house

Explorer and Primatologist Delia Akeley lived in this building in 1938. Her work had great influence on taxidermy and museum displays. Akeley was also an innovator in animal-human communications. She spent years studying the behavior of her pet Vervet (monkey), J.T., and learning to communicate with him. In 1923 she traveled deep into the Congo to study Pygmy tribes. Akeley passed away in 1970 at the age of 95.
