"Aida" star lived in this building
by BlockShopper Historian published Feb. 18, 2010
Soprano Mary Curtis-Verna lived in this building in 1967. She performed at the Metropolitan Opera, New York, in the 1950s and 1960s. Curtis-Verna was known for playing the diva in peril roles. While she may have been overshadowed by fellow 1956 Metropolitan Opera new hire Maria Callas, Time magazine called her, "the Metropolitan's most highly respected relief aria-pitcher." She passed away in 2009.
