Journalist, Emmet Hughes, lived in this building in 1967. He was 32 years old when he became the first presidential aide to be given the formal title, speechwriter, during the Eisenhower administration. Hughes may best be remembered for his 1962 memoir, "The Ordeal of Power," a critical analysis of President Dwight D. Eisenhower that questioned his political savvy. Hughes was also foreign bureau chief for Time-Life and a political advisor for Governor (NY) Nelson Rockefeller. He passed away in 1982.
