Conductor, Margaret Hillis, lived in this building in 1967. She founded the Chicago Symphony Chorus in 1957 and cultivated its international reputation as one of the world's finest. Hillis and the chorus won their first Grammy Award in 1977. She would total nine Grammy Awards in her career. Only Aretha Franklin, Ella Fitzgerald, and Barbara Streisand have won more by a female performer. Hillis passed away in 1998.
