Elegant Victorian - Mt Airy

When the magazine, Victorian Homes, named Gowen Avenue the prettiest street in Philadelphia, it was not exaggerating by much. Look no further than this excellent example of late 19th century architecture, a house designed by Frank G. Pierson in 1897, that combines the rich interior woodwork, deep sills, and stained glass characteristic of Victorian homes, with the larger room sizes and elegant symmetry typical of the colonial revival movement. Among its notable features: the grand wrap-around porch, the beautifully appointed bathrooms, central air, and a cooks kitchen with handsome pine cabinets, corian counters, double sinks, and two stoves (three, if you count the wonderful, working antique coal stove). Beautifully maintained and well suited for entertaining, indoors and out, the home has been featured twice on the Gowen Avenue House Tour. For gardening buffs, the property offers exquisite grounds with specimen plantings that include a Katsura Tree and several Flowering Japanese Dogwoods.
