Baseball Hall of Fame member Roy Campanella grew up in this house according to the 1930 U.S. census. His father, Lawrence, was a laborer who owned the house. Campanella is considered to be one of the greatest catchers of all-time. He was a three-time NL MVP and an eight-time All-Star. Campanella's Brooklyn Dodgers defeated the cross-town New York Yankees in seven games to win the 1955 World Series. In 1958 a car accident left him paralyzed from the shoulders down. Campanella had his number 39 retired by the Dodgers (LA) in 1972 and was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1969. He passed away in 1993.
