William F. Niedringhaus was the co-founder of Granite City, Illinois and a steel manufacturer in 1906 when he owned this house. About 10 years after he co-founded Granite City his stamping works covered 1.25 million square feet on 75 acres and employed 4,000 people. Niedringhaus and his brother Frederick played a major role in American industry by pioneering the process of creating durable, affordable stamped and enamalled metal-ware.
