Edwards Whitaker was president of Boatmen's Bank in 1912 when he owned this house. Mr. Whitaker became president of the bank in 1910 and was also director of the St. Louis Union Trust Co. and president of the Missouri Botanical Garden in 1912. Whitaker hired architect James P. Jamieson to design the Neo-Classical style mansion, which was finished in 1903.
