Francis Fowler was the original distiller of Southern Comfort in 1915 when he owned this house. Fowler concocted Southern Comfort in the basement of this home after buying the recipe from bartender Martin Wilkes Heron. The drink won the gold medal for taste and quality at the 1904 World's Fair in St. Louis.
