Painter and illustrator Norman Rockwell bought this house in 1926. In 2000 the New York Times called Rockwell "the greatest artist of the last century." His work graced the cover of the Saturday Evening Post over 300 times. Rockwell's retrospective "Pictures for the American Public" traveled the U.S. for two years ending up at the Guggenheim Museum. He divorced his first wife while living at this house, remarried and started a family before relocating to Vermont in 1939. Rockwell was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1977 and passed away in 1978. His "Breaking Home Ties" sold for $15.4 million at auction in 2006.
